Cosmetic Dentistry: Myths and Facts

Posted under Cosmetic Dentistry on December 24th, 2013 | 1 Comment

Cosmetic dentistry is a specialty that is often misunderstood.  Some of us may think, for example, that cosmetic dentistry only means veneers or teeth whitening.  While these are certainly part of it, they don’t tell the whole story.  I feel it’s important to give a complete picture of what cosmetic dentistry is all about.

First of all, let us dispel the myth that cosmetic dentistry is only about aesthetics or appearance.  Through the application of cosmetic dental procedures, I have personally seen many patients experience not only aesthetic improvements, but health and functional improvements as well.  Added to this are the improvements I see every day in my patients’ self-esteem and confidence resulting from cosmetic procedures.  There is no doubt that these procedures are truly life-changing.

Another myth is that cosmetic dentistry is just a way to cover up dental problems.  In reality, responsible dentists know that cosmetic dentistry must complement the oral health of the patient as well as the patient’s general health.  At Santa Teresa Dental, patients can rest assured that cosmetic procedures will never compromise or ignore the big picture when it comes to oral health.

For our patients, cosmetic dentistry comprises a wide array of options.  For example, there’s cosmetic bonding, a surprisingly affordable alternative to veneers.  This refutes the myth that cosmetic procedures are necessarily expensive.  Then there are dental implants, an excellent treatment choice for replacing missing teeth.  We also offer Zoom, which is a teeth whitening procedure offering both in-office and in-home options.  Another popular cosmetic procedure is porcelain veneers, which are simply a harmless thin “shell” that is placed over your existing teeth.  Yet another option is the well-known Invisalign braces, which are clear, removable, and comfortable.

Now that we’ve eliminated the myths, let’s consider some facts.  Cosmetic dentistry is always evolving, and new ways to improve your dental health and appearance are constantly being investigated.  Cosmetic procedures are never performed without the patient’s overall health in mind, and safety is of the utmost priority.  Furthermore, seeking out a dentist for a cosmetic procedure is a serious decision, and patients should only choose the most reputable and experienced dentists to perform these procedures.

Santa Teresa Dentalin Morgan Hill is proud to provide a full range of cosmetic procedure options for our patients. Now that you have the facts on cosmetic dentistry, you can call us at 408-782-6568. Great… Rightly said that cosmetic dentistry is not all about making teeth beautiful and attractive, but also making them healthy and retain their health. Earlier I was also not very clear about this, but after going through its overall procedure, I came to know about its effectiveness, and I am glad to see that you have clearly stated all the facts related to it.
